Our Story
Greene Mountain Nutrition & Smoothies began with a simple idea: after a great workout, you should be able to stop somewhere local for a fresh, healthy protein shake.
When Ryan and Jolene Greene moved to Vermont in 2013 for Jolene’s job at a local TV station, they quickly discovered that option didn’t exist. So, they decided to create it.
They sketched out the vision for a shop that combined a full smoothie bar with a complete nutrition store. Drawing inspiration from a smoothie bar they loved back in Louisiana, the Greenes built a menu with a wide variety of blends, flavors, and high-quality ingredients. Over the years, that menu has continued to evolve based on customer favorites, new flavor trends, and a commitment to keeping things fresh, delicious, and healthy.
From day one, Greene Mountain Nutrition has been a family-run business, with Ryan, Jolene, and now their young daughter Aria spending time in the stores. Being locally owned means everything to them — it allows the family to stay close to the community, offer truly personal service, and treat customers like friends rather than transactions.
As the business grew, so did the opportunities. In 2016, the Greenes launched their first smoothie “truck,” starting out with a simple pop-up tent at the Nordic Soccer Tournament. The response was overwhelming, and soon after, the family invested in a fully custom-built smoothie truck. Today, that truck travels all over Vermont, fueling sporting events, festivals, and company wellness days with the same fresh smoothies customers love in-store.
Meanwhile, Ryan was developing strong relationships with national supplement brands, including major names like 1st Phorm — making Greene Mountain Nutrition the only retailer in Vermont to carry it. His dedication to product quality and fair pricing has helped the business stay competitive with online stores and national chains, while offering something they can’t: knowledge, honesty, and friendly, face-to-face guidance.
What started as one shop in Essex has grown into two full retail locations, a statewide smoothie truck, and a business that has become a beloved part of the Vermont health and fitness community.
